What age should my child start having their eyes tested?
As soon as possible. Your child does not need to be able to read in order for us to check the health of their eyes and obtain a prescription. It helps if they can sit still, though! We can also test a child sitting in a pram. It’s very important to get your child’s eyes tested regularly because their eyes undergo lots of change as they grow up. Do not wait for your child to ask to be tested, as they won’t necessarily be aware of visual problems or able to communicate them to you.
Do I qualify for an NHS funded eye examination?
The NHS will fund eye examinations for people who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Aged 16 or under, or under 19 in full time education
- Aged 60 or over
- Diabetic
- Diagnosed with glaucoma
- Aged 40 or over with someone in the immediate family diagnosed with glaucoma
- Registered blind or partially sighted
- Receiving Pension Credit Guarantee credit
- Receiving income support or job-seekers allowance
- Receiving Tax Credit
- In receipt of HC2 or HC3
Is there wheelchair access to the practice?
Yes! If you take the side entrance to the right there is an entrance without steps. To let us know you’re there please press the bell by the door. This side door may also be used for prams.
Can you test my eyes at my home?
We can arrange a home visit provided you are registered as housebound. If you are not registered as housebound please be advised that wheelchair access is available, there is nearby parking, and that we will do everything we can while you are at the practice to ensure your visit is as easy as possible. Please be mindful that you receive a more comprehensive test at the practice.
Do you take second hand spectacles?
Yes, we do accept second hand spectacles which are collected from the practice and re-distributed by the charity VisionAid Overseas to developing countries where eyecare is not as accessible as it is here in the UK.
I have dry eyes/blepharitis. Can I buy eye drops from you?
Yes, we supply a range of eye drops and solutions suitable for those suffering from dry eyes and/or blepharitis.
I've scratched the lenses in my specs. Do I need to pay for new ones?
It depends. Come in and show us the scratches and we will check to see if we can get replacement lenses for you on warranty. If your lenses are not covered by a warranty then we will be able to advise you on what is required to have them replaced.
