Minor Eye Condition Service (MECS)

If you require advice or treatment for a recent eye problem MECS is an NHS-funded service that provides assessment and treatment for minor eye problems through accredited optometrists in local optometry practices. 

N Lloyd-Thomas Opticians is MECS accredited.

Some conditions that can be treated by MECS include:

  • Red eye or eyelids 
  • Dry, gritty, or uncomfortable eyes 
  • Eye irritation and inflammation 
  • Recent discharge from the eye or watery eye 
  • Recently occurring flashes or floaters 
  • Painful eye 
  • In growing lashes 
  • Recent and sudden loss of vision 
  • Foreign body in the eye
